Senamuang revealed that he would meet with VFF at the AFF Awards 2017 on September 23. He heard that VFF wanted to invite him to coach the Vietnam national team but they hadn't had any official exchange.

He thought the position would be an interesting challenge. However, because he has just quit Port FC, he wanted to spend more time with his family and complete an AFC Pro-Diploma Coaching course.

Kiatisuk is known for bringing his assistants with him and that means VFF may have to pay USD61,500 a month to hire him. This would be a huge obstacle as VFF already stated that there would be difficulties with the salary and previous payment for foreign coaches is around USD15,000 a month.

General Secretary of VFF Le Hoai Anh said they had 15 applicants and many of them are German coaches. Winfried Schafer, who also led Thailand national football team before, applied for the position wanting a salary of USD40,000.

"The quickest time that the selection can be completed is at the end of October," Anh said.

Coach Mai Duc Chung is temporarily leading the team in qualifications for the Asian Cup 2019.
