The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has fined the Vietnam Football Federation USD15,000 for failing to prevent fans setting off flares during the 2019 Asian Cup qualifier against Cambodia.

Vietnamese fans set off flares during the 2019 Asian Cup qualifier against Cambodia at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium on September 5

Several flares were set off after the Vietnamese team had taken the lead just after four minutes at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium on September 5.

As soon as the incident took place, AFC officials and match supervisors worked with VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan and General Secretary Le Hoai Anh in the field.

AFC regulations consider flares a serious violation.

The VFF has just called on local football fans to say no to flares, especially at international matches.
