The Hanoi Beer Run will take place for the first time on April 30, bringing together the melting pot that is the stunning West Lake area combined with sports and charity events, according to the Organizing Board. The concept is popular in Europe, with different forms combining sports and partying and now expats living Vietnam want to bring it to the country.

A motley crew of the city’s beer providers have teamed up for the event, including Oasis Bay Party Cruise, Viland Travel, H20, Cocoon, Chops, The Garden, and The Kitchen, to bring participants an event including exercise and tasty beer.

Runners will get a full beer every 500 meters for an estimated distance of seven kilometers around West Lake.

“It’s a seven-kilometer run with 15 beer stations plotted along the route, so while there’s a few sports teams competing, it’s an event just for fun,” said Dan Fillion, one of the organizers. “There’s also a prize for the slowest runner.” He added that much of the proceeds will be going to local charities.

There is an after-party at Eden Garden, 264 Au Co, Tay Ho district, with live music, dancers, and fire dance. That will probably prove more exacting than the actual run, as it will rage on until 6am with 20 DJs keeping those blistered, battered feet moving.

Tickets are VND500,000 ($22) per person, on sale at Vibes, 9 Dang Thai Mai, Tay Ho district, including race registration, beer for the whole day, a t-shirt, entry to the after-party, food promotions, and a charitable donation.
