The Asian Taekwondo Championship will be held at Phu Tho Indoor Sport Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from May 24-28.

Addressing the press conference on May 18, Truong Ngoc De, president of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation and deputy head of the organizing board, noted that the tournament has attracted the participation of nearly 700 athletes from 50 different countries and territories.

He said the event is a warm-up for the Vietnamese athletes as they make their preparations for the ASIAD 18 in Indonesia this August.

Athletes will compete in two categories, including kyorugi (combat) and poomsae (performance).

Well-known Vietnamese fighters Ho Thi Kim Ngan, and Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, will join the event.

The 5th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championship and 4th Asian Para Taekwondo Open will be held to coincide with the main event. This year, the Asian Para Taekwondo Open will draw the participation of 120 disabled athletes from 50 countries and territories around the world.
