According to reports in the German media, Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach have set their sights on signing young Vietnam national team star Doan Van Hau.

The 19-year-old left-back is currently part of the Hanoi FC set up and is a key player for the Vietnamese champions who are also competing in the group stages of the AFC Cup 2019.

According to reroots, Monchengladbach, who are currently fourth in Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, are eyeing Van Hau as a replacement for Swedish full-back Oscar Wendt who has been with the club since 2011.

With Wendt now 33 years old, Borussia are looking for a left-back who can contribute to the attack while also being solid in defence — and Van Hau fits the bill as he has shown for Vietnam and Hanoi in the recent years.

Since 2011, Oscar Wendt tilled the left wing of Borussia Mönchengladbach. But in 2020, the long-term cooperation will end. In search of potential successors, the foals become creative.

According to FussballTransfers, Van Hau is considered one of Asia’s greatest full-back talents and the hype surrounding him is huge. “His highlight videos are watched on YouTube by several hundred thousand people,” the website reported.

According to the news outlet, the Vietnamese star was first noticed by the German club during the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017. The Foals’ interest increased during the AFC Asian Cup 2019 which was held in January in the United Arab Emirates when he helped Vietnam reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Van Hau had also helped the Golden Dragons win the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 last year.
