The national football tournaments in 2020 will be rescheduled amid the complicated developments of the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV), according to a statement issued by the Vietnam Professional Football JSC (VPF) on February 4.

Hanoi FC are the defending V.League champions.

The move aims to implement the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 173/QD-TTg dated February 1 on declaring the aforementioned nCoV-caused disease an epidemic in Vietnam.

Receiving the approval from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), VPF has announced the two plans for the organisation of the V.League, First Division and National Cup tournaments, depending on the reality of the epidemic.

Plan A will see the V.League 2020 kick-off on February 29, while the First Division tourney and the National Cup will commence on March 14 and February 23, respectively. As for Plan B, the V.League will kick off on March 7, then the First Division will follow on March 14 and the National Cup on April 3.

Due to the acute respiratory disease caused by nCoV, the clash for the 2019 National Super Cup between V.League champions Hanoi FC and Ho Chi Minh City will also be postponed until February 21 or even as late as early March, depending on the severity of the epidemic, instead of taking place on February 7 as initially scheduled.
