The head coach of the Vietnamese national football team, Park Hang-seo, and his wife returned to Hanoi after a holiday with his family in South Korea on Sunday evening while fears mounted about coronavirus infection.

Coach Park Hang-seo returns to work in Hanoi on February 23

Park returned to South Korea during the Lunar New Year Holiday at the end of January. His schedule to return to work in Vietnam on February 7 was delayed to February 23 because the Vietnamese football season was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The 60-year-old coach and his wife landed at Noi Bai Airport at 9.30 pm on February 23 and were then taken to their home in Hanoi by his South Korean language assistant Lee Jung-hak.

Although Hanoi has started to ask for health declarations with people who come from South Korea since February 23, the coach and his wife were only given a quick health check at the Hanoi airport before returning to work here.

According to the Vietnamese Football Federation (VFF), the South Korean coach reported that they didn't visit his hometown during the Lunar New Year Holiday but had a trip to Japan and then stayed in Seoul.

"Therefore they don't need to be quarantined," the VFF said. "But at this time, Park will have to follow instructions by Vietnamese health officials as well as limit meeting other people."

VFF added that they would have a meeting with coach Park on February 25 to discuss preparations for the national team ahead of their match against Malaysia in the World Cup 2022 qualification on March 31.
