Midfielder Ngo Hoang Thinh of Ho Chi Minh City Football Club has been suspended for the remainder of this year following his horrendous two-footed tackle on Hanoi Football Club's Do Hung Dung in a V. League game on Tuesday.

The punishment was announced by the Vietnamese Football Federation (VFF) today following their urgent meetings with the clubs and the organisers.

According to Vu Xuan Thanh, a representative from VFF, Ngo Hoang Thinh will be banned from all professional football competitions in Vietnam until December 31, 2021. In addition, Thanh will have to pay a fine of VND40 million and pay medical treatment for Do Hung Dung.

"We consider this a serious fault and need to be strictly punished," he said.

In the 27th minute of the game between the two clubs on Tuesday evening, Ngo Hoang Thinh, in an attempt to stop a counterattack, made a sliding tackle on Dung, who collapsed immediately and screamed in pain.

Dung was rushed to a local hospital where doctors found that he had both his shin and fibula broken on the right leg.

Ho Chi Minh City Football Club's coach Mano Polking visits Do Hung Dung at the hospital on March 24.

The 28-year-old midfielder underwent a 90-minute operation on Wednesday morning and doctors said he might need at least six months before he can play again.
