As hosts of Group G fixtures in the Asian region’s second qualifying round for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will allow a limited number of Vietnamese fans to enter and support their team in the upcoming matches.

According to Tran Quoc Tuan, chairman of the Competitions Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the organising board will permit 30% of the stadium’s capacity to be open to supporters.

For matches involving the UAE, half of tickets will be on sale to fans of the hosts. Supporters of the visiting teams will be allowed to buy 10% of the available seats, he noted.

Supporters are required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in advance, and have negative RT-PCR tests 48 hours before entering the stadium, Tuan said.

Fans under the age of 16 will not be allowed to enter the stadium, whilst people who are vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus must have an E-certificate through the AlHosn UAE app.

Once inside the stadium, spectators must maintain a safe distance from others and limit movements. Everyone in attendance will have their body temperatures measured and they must wear face masks during the match.

All three matches involving the Vietnamese team will take place at the Al Maktoum and Zabeel stadiums in Dubai. The UAE typically records an average of 1,888 positive COVID-19 cases across the entire territory each day.

Vietnam are currently leading Group G with 11 points and are scheduled to take on Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia on June 11, and hosts the UAE on June 15.
