The international grandmaster took full advantage of his rival’s mistakes and snatched the win after 51 moves.

However, he was outperformed by Arjun Erigaisi of India and Parham Maghsoodloo of Iran his fifth and sixth matches respectively.

In his previous three matches, Liem secured one draw, one loss, and one win.

As a result, Liem was temporarily ranked in eighth place among the 10 players, thereby losing his chance to win the tournament.

November 19 will see the Vietnamese chess player face off against Shankland Sam of the United States, as well as Praggnanandhaa and Adhiban, both from India.

The Tata Steel Chess India Rapid and Blitz Tournament is scheduled to run until November 20.
