Coach Park Hang-seo honoured at Victory Cup 2022

Head coach Park Hang-seo of the Vietnamese national men’s football team won the award for the best foreign coach of 2022 at the Cup Chien Thang (Victory Cup) award ceremony held in Hanoi on January 11.

Park first arrived in Vietnam to lead the national team in October 2017. He went on to renew his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) twice in both 2019 and 2021.

Under his guidance the national men’s football team have achieved numerous historic milestones, whilst he has also led the Vietnam U23 side to finish runners-up at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship before finishing fourth in the 2018 Asian Games.

In addition, the U23 team also bagged gold medals at the SEA Games in both 2019 and 2022.

Furthermore, the senior team won the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2018 and advanced to the quarter-final stage of the Asian Cup in 2019. 

Most notably, for the first time in history Vietnam reached the final qualification round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Vietnam have consistently maintained their top position in Southeast Asia and set a record in retaining the longest time in the world's top 100 by a Southeast Asian team.

The Victory Cup has returned after two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, honouring the nation's best athletes, teams, and coaches from 2022.

To pick up the the award, coach Park had to battle against compatriot Kim Kil-tae, a taekwondo coach, and Bulgarian Siyana Bozhilova, an aerobics coach, for the title of the best foreign coach of 2022.

Coach Mai Duc Chung who led the national women’s football team to SEA Games glory for the seventh times and qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time won the coach of the year title.

The female athlete of the year went to runner Nguyen Thi Oanh for obtaining three SEA Games golds, breaking a record in the process.

Nguyen Huy Hoang, who secured five SEA Games golds and two records, claimed the best male athlete of the year, as well as the title of most favourite athlete.
