Over 4,000 runners to take part in Tien Phong Newspaper Marathon
More than 4,000 amateur and professional athletes are expected to join in the 64th Tien Phong Newspaper Marathon, to be held on March 26 in the mountainous province of Lai Chau.

There will be a total of 96 prizes worth nearly VND500 million on offer for runners winning difference categories.
The tournament is expected to help promote the image, culture, and people of Lai Chau to both domestic and foreign friends.
First launched in 1958, the Tien Phong Newspaper Marathon is the oldest event of its kind in Vietnam. Since its launch the race has been held every year, with the exception of 1980.
At its first edition only 72 runners participated, including three-time Olympic winner Emil Zatopek of Czech Republic who was also the first foreigner to compete at the event.
Through 63 competitions, sports officials have discovered several talented local athletes such as Bui Luong, Nguyen Van Thuyet, Luu Van Hung, Truong Thanh Hang, and Pham Thị Binh. All have gone on to become national champions and regional medal holders.
