Hanoi still retains unforgettable memories of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945).

The historic atmosphere seems embedded in people who witnessed the revolution in the capital city.

A veteran who was a member of the Vietnam Federation of Independence or Viet Minh recalled the night before the revolution. Hanoi seemed in restless anticipation, with gleaming smiles and sound of sewing-machines clattering late into the night making flags. Groups of young people practised revolutionary songs to prepare for the performance on August 19.

Early morning of August 19, 1945, Hanoi was covered with flags. All the factories and offices closed and flows of people rushed to the Opera House to mark the victory, bringing with them slogans, flags and primitive weapons.
