Travelling to foreign countries for tattoos has become a trend among stylish, young Vietnamese.

Nhat Minh in Hang Be Street, Hanoi, said, “There are all kinds of tattoos over my body from 2D to 3D made both inside and outside the country. In fact, tattoos made in foreign countries are more luxurious.”

In a recent holiday in Thailand with his family, he had his shoulder tattooed. Minh shared, “In Thailand, value of a tattoo is not based on its size, but the time is required to create it. An average price in Thailand is 100 dollars per hour.”

Minh said that the trend for young Vietnamese to get tattoos done in foreign countries is not new. Not only do people spend hundreds of dollars on tattoos, they also travel just to see the difference between the styles in foreign countries."

Tattoos from Vietnam can often be of bad quality. Minh Hue, 22, said, "All my friends have tattoos. They even change them every month because it only costs around VND60,000 (USD2.91). I\'d like to change one of mine a little bit; it will be the third time I\'ve changed it."

Most of the tattoo parlors in Hanoi are located around Hang Duong Street and close to universities.

The owner of one shop admitted that these cheap tattoos will often fade after a month or so.
