Peach growers are finding it more difficult to keep their land due to fast development of real estate projects.

Farmers in La Ca village rent land in Tay Mo

Previously, farmers in famous Nhat Tan village, where there are many orchards, were compelled to relocate to areas along the banks of the Red River to make room for the construction of luxury housing blocks.

A number of farmers in La Ca village, Ha Dong District, Hanoi, had to rent land in Tay Mo Village, Tu Liem District, to grow their peaches.

Not much later, farmers in La Ca found themselves in the same situation when they were forced to hand over their land for compensation from real estate investors in order to make way for apartment projects.

Not only did the land lack peach blossoms, but many of the growers became jobless.

Some farmers decided to relocate their orchards to other places in Tay Mo so as to maintain their careers. On average, a peach farmer must pay VND2 million (USD95.1) per every 360 square metres per year for rented land.

Still, they worry that even after relocation, their land could be taken for further real estate development.
