Chibi drawing has been popular in Japan for years and has recently made its way to Vietnam, catching the attention of many young people.

Chibi pictures serve as tribute to parents

Chibi is a Japanese slang word meaning "short person" or "small child." The word has gained popularity among fans of manga and anime. It refers to someone, usually a child or some small animal.

On the occasion of this year's Buddhist holiday, “Vu Lan”, held on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, many who want to express their gratitude towards their parents make a Chibi drawing.

Many have sent their works to a Chibi drawing contest entitled “Idol In My Eyes”, held by VTC Academy School.

Many contestants have surprised the organisation board, as they have opted to draw their parents, relatives and friends, instead of Kpop stars or artists from the US or the UK.

“Even though my parents are not rich, I still love them very much and would like to send some token of my gratitude to celebrate this occasion,” one young man said.

Hong Hanh, a young woman, said, “My father passed away when I was in the sixth grade and my mother had to take all responsibilities of the household along with the hardships of raising three children. Despite hard work she has never complained and has always kept a smile on her face. Making this Chibi drawing is my way of showing how thankful I am."
