A road in the rural area of Ha Tinh Province has just been named "Facebook" after members of a Facebook group based in HCM City helped to build it.

After members of the Khan Quang Do (Red Scarf) Group made a trip to extend aid to the flood victims in the districts of Huong Khe, Huong Son and Vu Quang, they also traveled to Yen Hoi Village in Vu Quang District. Here they saw that the people had to travel on a long, narrow pathway across the the hill with all of their tools and farm animals in order to get to their fields everyday.

The group decided to donate over VND30 million (USD1,500) to build a better road for people in Neighbourhood No. 7. But instead of calling the road Khan Quang Do, it was named "Facebook" in recognition of the group's help.

Road construction

Nguyen The Tien, Chairman of Huong Tho Commune People's Committee, said, "They came to help the locals here upon request from a teacher in our area. I know that they gave the funds to construct the road, but I didn't know anything about naming the road. I don't even know what Facebook is. I'll ask for explanation from the teacher."

Chairman of Vu Quang District Ha Van Trong also said he was surprised. "I haven't heard anything about this. Well, basically, to name a road, you must seek approval from the district People's Council then the official documents from the provincial People's Council."

Trong said he will check on the situation.
