Vietnam's national vaccine management system has been recognised as meeting World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.

Lahouari Belghabi, a representative of the WHO, said the organisation sent a group of 20 experts to Vietnam to assess the country's national vaccine management system from April 13-17.

On April 17, WHO experts determined Vietnam met WHO's requirement for a National Regulatory Authority (NRA).

"Vietnam has met international vaccine management standards, so 'Made-in-Vietnam' vaccines may be exported to other countries," said Lahouari Belghabi.

WHO's chief representative in the Western Pacific Region will come to Vietnam and award the country with a certificate on June 21. This has named Vietnam among 39 countries in the world that meet WHO's strict vaccine standards.

Vietnam started a programme to build up a NRA for vaccines in 2001 and accelerated preparations since May 2013, with the active participation of four agencies under the Health Ministry.

"This is a really good opportunity for Vietnam's vaccine production industry to produce products for local demand and for export," said Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long.

Vietnamese experts have been invited to join the WHO's delegation to assess Russia's NRA in December.
