Leaders of the Hanoi Opera House has decided to repaint the theatre with a paler colour after receiving substantial criticism for its choice of a bright yellow following recent maintenance.

Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, director of the Hanoi Opera House, said they had repainted and upgraded the opera house to welcome the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on 2nd September.

The maintenance was expected to be completed by 28th August.

Residents in the capital were surprised by the bright yellow facelift to the Hanoi Opera House. Many people claimed the original colour of the Hanoi Opera House, and several other French-styled buildings, was a pale yellow, unlike the bold and bright colour chosen.

Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet backtracked on the original decision, claiming “We sought approval from the ministry before carrying out maintenance. We have yet to complete the work, so the current colour is not the final facelift of the house,” she said.
