Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued a document requesting ministries and localities to work seriously and avoiding post-Tet indulgences after the holiday.

In the document, the prime minister instructed to immediately focus on their assigned tasks and create the most favourable conditions for business activities.

Public servants are not allowed to go to festivals or pagodas during working hours or use public cars for that activity, except when performing their duties, the PM said. They are also banned from holding parties in their work time.

Prime Minister Phuc has vowed to build a transparent, strong, united government. He recently banned localities from presenting gifts to ministries and the government.

As a result, during the Tet holiday, the number of state-owned cars with blue or red numbered licence plates from different localities which came to visit agencies and ministries in Hanoi on Tet fell dramatically. There were no rows of cars queuing up in front of ministry gates to wait their turn.

A minister said that he really supported the PM’s instruction. He himself did not have to spend time on receiving delegations and instead could do his work.

The prime minister has asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to instruct localities to boost agricultural, forestry and seafood production while the Ministry of Industry and Trade will instruct the acceleration of industrial production activities and the effective operation of reservoirs to ensure sufficient water for agricultural production.

The Ministry of Transport and the National Traffic Safety Committee were urged to coordinate with localities and relevant forces to increase inspections of transport business in order to ensure traffic safety and order during the post-Tet period.

The prime minister also asked the Ministry of Health to prepare enough staff, medicines and equipment for treatment, prevent diseases and increase checks on food safety at tourist sites.
