The largest regional conference on reproductive and sexual health and rights will be held in Ha Long City, in the northern province of Quang Ninh for the first time next November.

Prof. Dr. Le Vu Anh, Chairman of Vietnam Public Health Association, Head of the Organising Board exchanges relevant information with the press about the upcoming APCRSHR9.

The information was announced at a press brief in Hanoi on June 2, held to reveal the projected programme for the 9th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR9), scheduled to take place from November 27-30 in Ha Long, Quang Ninh under the theme "Leave No One Behind! Justice in Sexual and Reproductive Health."

Speaking at the press brief, Prof. Dr. Le Vu Anh, Chairman of Vietnam Public Health Association cum Head of the Organising Board, said that APCRSHR9 will be hosted by the Association under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, the United Nations, the World Health Organisation, Ford Foundation, New Venture Fund, and other domestic and international organisations.

It will be a scientific forum on the subject of reproductive and sexual health and rights, a forum which was initiated and maintained by civil society organisations every two years since 2001, discussing hot topics and emerging social issues related to reproductive and sexual health from different perspectives, such as culture, religion, policy, health system, education, etc…, with a strong approach to health around the main theme.

The conference has received the support of governments from the eight previous events held in the Philippines (twice), Thailand, India, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Myanmar. APCRSHR9 will be the largest regional conference held in Vietnam in this field.

At present, according to Prof. Dr. Anh, the organisers have received more than 1,500 applications for participation from experts, scientists, researchers, representatives of networks, community groups and youth from around 40 different countries and territories in the Asia Pacific and around the world. The event is expected to welcome the top leaders from Vietnam as well as other countries.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Chief of the Ministry of Health’s Office, said that the hosting of a regional conference like APCRSHR9 has affirmed Vietnam’s increasingly important role within the international arena. It will also serve as an opportunity for the host nation to introduce to its friends around the world its achievements in the field of healthcare, as well as serving to promote the image of the country and Vietnamese people in general, and in particular Ha Long Bay and Quang Ninh Province, to the international community.

On the first day of APCRSHR9 (November 27), a Youth Conference, with the participation of 400 young delegates, will kick off the APCRSHR9’s series of activities in Ha Long. From November 28-30, nearly 200 well-known speakers, experts, researchers and representatives from international organisations will share information in related fields at five plenary sessions and 70 parallel and satellite sessions.

In addition, 40 booths showcasing models, programmes and services of organisations, networks and businesses in the region, along with the five best practices on sexual and reproductive health in Quang Ninh, will also be shared with delegates during the four days of the conference.
