Many BRT buses have faced difficulties negotiating the crowded roads in Hanoi while other vehicles keep encroaching on their lanes.

It is not uncommon to see a BRT bus running at the same speed as normal buses during rush hours in many streets.

Getting on a BRT bus running from Kim Ma Station to Yen Nghia Station on August 21 afternoon rush hour, DTiNews reporter saw that it took an hour 23 minutes for the journey while a plan by Hanoi Urban Transport Management Centre says it should take only 45 minutes.

The bus driver, Ha Trong Giang, said this was typical during rush hours and the main cause is that other vehicles encroached on the BRT lane.

"Despite the ban, other drivers keep going into the BRT lane while traffic police cannot deal with such a large number of violations on a jammed street," Giang explained.

The BRT bus driver added that violations are also seen during other hours, threatening the bus safety.

"We often have to brake suddenly to avoid motorbikes or cars on our lane," Giang said.
