Punishment demanded after minister’s wife uses state car
Many people have said that Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh should be punished for using an official car to pick up his wife from the runway at Noi Bai Airport.
Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh admitted that the office of the ministry sent the car to pick up his wife and issued an apology letter on January 8. Anh also apologised to the passengers on the flight on January 4 and said that he would review the matter so that similar case will not occur.
"As the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the family member, myself and my family want to apologise to the public, co-workers and the government," he wrote in the letter.
However, many Dan Tri readers were unsatisfied and want the case to be more transparent with proper punishment since the abuse of state-owned cars problem is not new and has been addressed.
Many said the minister knew which was right and wrong but did it anyway and an apology cannot fix everything, especially when the anti-corruption campaign is being carried out. Some other suggested punishing whoever allowed the car inside Noi Bai Airport.
"The minister only apologised because of public pressure," a reader named Dinh Nho Hoang wrote. "Please don't make excuses or else I fear that the ministry's office's overenthusiasm will be blamed for damaging the minister's reputation."
