Early peach blossoms worry Hanoi growers
The prolonged warm weather has resulted in early peach blossoms in Hanoi’s Nhat Tan Ward before Tet Holiday, leaving local farmers worried they may have a poor crop.
The two last months of the year are the most important period for peach trees. So local growers are anxiously watching the weather with the earnest hope that the delicate peach blossoms will bloom just in time, bring income to them as well as good luck and prosperity to buyers.
It is now around one week for Tet to come but peach trees in Nhat Tan have already bloomed. Blossoms have already fallen at the foot of many peach trees.
Growers have to pick up peach blossoms for sales
The number of customers coming to Nhat Tan to buy peach blossoms has sharply dropped. Many complained about the early blossoms.
A big branch of peach blossoms was sold at around VND2 million (USD86.95) in previous years, but this year, it was just less than half, said an owner of a peach garden
At many markets in Hanoi, peach blossoms have decreased by 40-60% on-year.
