There will be only 18 domestic flights left at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City, leaving the usually packed airport nearly deserted.

The Ministry of Transport has ordered that starting from March 30 to April 15, Vietnamese airlines are only allowed to operate Hanoi-HCM City, Hanoi-Danang, Hanoi-Phu Quoc, HCM City-Danang and HCM City-Phu Quoc routes. Each route will have one flight per day.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Tan Son Nhat Airport received 800 domestic and international flights each day. On March 30, only 18 flights left. Most of the planes have been grounded. The airports only receive cargo planes and foreign planes that arrive to repatriate their citizens to each country.

Passengers were asked to stay two metres away from each other, wear face masks and have body temperature taken.

Vietnam Airlines announced that they had reduced the total air routes from 35 to eight domestic routes and only 10% of the seats were filled. The routes are maintained for emergency needs. Passengers can change planes, routes or have tickets refund.
