Many foreign people are contributing to the fight against Covid-19 pandemic in Danang City and Quang Nam Province.

When receiving a message about locations that are in need of help, Micheal Harris from the UK forwarded the location to his volunteer team group chat so that they could discuss the plan. In the afternoon, the group went to the supermarket to buy food for those in need. Everyone wore face masks and gloves.

The charity group was set up just a few days after the second wave broke out in Danang and more people have joined in. Harris said he just wanted to do something to help the city during the hard times. His friends also had the same idea so the charity group was born.

At first, the group provided necessities to hospitals and quarantine centres. After Danang authorities stopped receiving support, Harris and his friends started searching for people in need and help them. Harris donated VND1.7m to the Danang City Fatherland Front. The group has donated hundreds of kilogrammes of rice, instant noodles and bread.

As an English teacher who has lived in Danang for two years, Harris said this was his way to thank the authorities and people of the city.

In the past days, the locals in An Hai Bac Ward have become familiar with the free face masks and vitamin C provided on Tran Thanh Mai Street by South Korean people. They would often call out to the passers-by and give them face masks and vitamin C.

Kim Won Hoon, an owner of a real estate consultancy, said he had been in Danang for a year and a half and he was impressed by the friendliness of the locals. Even though his business has also been affected by the pandemic, he and his co-workers have still found a way to provide help.

"My company received much help from the authorities so I feel responsible for joining in the fight against Covid-19," he said.

His group has donated 15,000 face masks, 500 freshwater bottles, 500 vitamin C bottles and 60 hand wash bottles to the public and medical staff.

In Quang Nam, the Children's Hope in Action in Hoi An collaborated with volunteers and kind donors to provide vitamin C, hand wash, milk, instant noodles and shower gel to Quang Nam Central General Hospital. Nguyen Thi Dung, representative of the Children's Hope in Action said, "Many foreigners have joined us. They all love Hoi An and Vietnam."

1.5 tonnes of rice and 300 litres of fish sauce and cooking ọil have been donated to the subcommittee for Hoi An isolation. Over 2,000 face masks and 40 hand wash bottles were given to the quarantine area at Thuy Loi College. In the future, the group will donate to the households affected by the pandemic but are not in the support list of the local authorities.

Australian-Vietnamese Kim Le Sambolec said she had lived in Hoi An for two years and fell in love with it. When she knew about the call for donations, she immediately joined in and also called for her friends to help. She said the case of the British pilot Stephen Cameron moved her deeply so she wanted to do something to help.

Cyril Quynhon, a 48-year-old French man in Hoi An, said that they would continue to help the locals and doctors.

"I hope this will end soon and the peaceful life will return to us. I want to wander the small streets and alleyways again," he said.
