Cancer patients are worried about their health after the K Hospital, Hanoi’s top public cancer hospital was locked down following a Covid-19 outbreak.

K Hospital has been locked down for Covid-19 prevention since May 7

On the opposite of K Hospital-Tan Trieu Branch is the rental area where hundreds of cancer patients and family members live. After the hospital was locked down, some patients returned to their hometowns, while others continued waiting for their treatments to be resumed.

40-year-old Pham Thi Thuong from Bac Giang Province said everyone was surprised and worried about their own health because cancer tumour spread very quickly. Thuong's family and friends have called to ask about her situation when K Hospital was locked down.

Pham Thi Thuong

"I went to the hospital for a blood test for a treatment session on May 6. But I haven't had any treatment when the outbreak occurred and the hospital was locked down on May 7. I felt so worried and frustrated," she said. "Many people returned to their home provinces and cities but I don't think travelling is completely safe at this point so I stay and wait for the hospital's further notice and to quarantine myself from my family."

Xuyen, another cancer patient from Thai Binh Province

Xuyen, another cancer patient from Thai Binh Province, also worried that if the treatment is not continued soon, the tumour will spread and her condition will worsen. Xuyen and her daughter-in-law decided to stay to wait for updates and self-quarantine.

"We would still be quarantined at our home anyway. I understand that it may take a while for the hospital to open again but I still have hope that the outbreak can be controlled soon. I would feel even more worried that hospital's notice would come if I were at home," she said.

All three branches of K Hospital on Quan Su Street, in Tam Hiep Commune and Tan Trieu Commune, with 5,000 staff, patients and family members, were all put on lockdown from May 7 until further notice after 10 new cases were found at the Tan Trieu branch.
