Thousands of boats at Hanoi’s Huong Pagoda have been left idle due to a sharp decline in visitors.

Yen Stream in My Duc District’s Huong Son Commune is deserted, in strong contrast to normal years.

It is easy to see boats piled on plots of land by Yen Stream after not being used for a long time.

A senior boatman on Yen Stream said that the number of visitors to Huong Pagoda has decreased by 80 percent at this time of the year compared to before the pandemic.

On January 8-9, the stream saw almost no tourists.

The passenger fall has seriously affected the income of local residents. Pham Hong Phuc said that his family’s boats have been left unused for more than one year. Many have deteriorated.

Not only boats but also services around Huong Pagoda such as restaurants and hotels have also been hard hit.

The areas where boats are being placed are covered by grass.
