19 teams from 18 countries and territories in the region competed at the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2011 (ABU) Bangkok held at the Impact Muangthong Thani centre in the Thai capital on August 28.
Vietnam’s Lac Hong University team defeated the Lao team in the quarterfinals but was trounced by the host team – Thai Soomkor Robot in the semifinal.
Thailand 1 and Thailand 2 won first and second prize, respectively, while Vietnam and Indonesia won third prize.
Head of the Vietnamese team, Dang Duy So, said that Vietnamese contestants will draw experiences from the contest to complete the robot performance.
The Vietnamese team includes seven people – three contestants, three supporting students and 1 technical director.
The Lac Hong team won second prize at the previous contest in Egypt in 2010.
Vietnam will host the contest in 2013.
