The Vietnamese Talent Awards 2010 was officially launched on April 15 in Hanoi, with an expansion into a new field.

Pham Huy Hoan, Editor in Chief of Dan Tri online newspaper, Chief Organiser of Vietnamese Talent Awards feels very happy for its increasing prestige. He said, “ For the past 5 consecutive years, the Awards have attracted attention from the Party and State leaders, who have given direct and helpful instructions to guide its development. The award ceremony, which is held annually on November 20, has received a great deal of support from high level officials of our Party, State and Government as well as from many people at difference ages. This has become a great source of inspiration to us [the organisers].”

Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu, Chairman of the Awards' jury, shared, “We honoured three outstanding scientists in 2009. It’s not easy to realise their ideas, but if we can do it, it will bring a lot of benefits to our country and society. In the meantime, I continue to be confident of the creativity of Vietnamese young people. That confidence has been more and more strengthened after I talked to winners of past years.”

According to Chief Organiser Pham Huy Hoan, under guideline from Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, this year Awards will be expanded into a new field of Education.

The new awards will be granted to teachers, education researchers, teaching groups and those who took part in educational activities and promoting education, who have gained excellent achievements and contributed to the development of Vietnamese education. They will be nominated by the Department of Emulation & Appraisal under the Ministry of Education & Training; Division of Emulation & Appraisal under the Central Committee of the Association for Promoting Education. The new award will include one first prize worth VND100 million ($5,200), two second prizes worth VND50 million ($2,600) each and three third prizes worth VND30 million ($1,600) each.

The IT prize system will be maintained with two sets of prizes for potential market products and existing market products, each contains one first prize worth VND100 million ($5,200), one second prize worth VND50 million ($2,600) and one third prize worth VND30 million ($1,600).

The Natural Science prize system will include six prizes worth VND100 million ($5,200) each, to be awarded to outstanding scientists in Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics, Chemistry, Living Sciences, Earth (including marine) and Environmental Sciences, and Combined Sciences.

The Vietnamese Talent Awards is initiated by the Association for Promoting Education and jointly organised by Vietnam Television Station, Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group and Dan Tri online newspaper.

After the general launch in Hanoi, local launches will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Da Nang in May.

The registration deadline for IT field is August 31, 2010. Applications should be sent to VnMedia online newspaper, 5th floor, 142 Le Duan Building, Dong Da District, Hanoi.

The awarding ceremony will be broadcasted live at 8pm of November 20, 2010 on Vietnam Television Station and live online on Dan Tri and VnMedia online newspapers.
