Nguyen Khac Vinh, the union’s secretary said the winners were chosen from the list of 20 nominees, who had made major contributions or innovations at work during the year.

“The quality of nominees this year was quite equal, which forced us to carefully consider before coming to a final decision,” Vinh commented.

The awardees include 30 year-old singer Tung Duong, 33 year-old singer Thai Thuy Linh, Ngo Phi Long - a 12th grade student in Lang Son Province, Nguyen Huynh Dong – a 35 year-old chemistry doctor from Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group’s vocational training school, and 32 year-old Ho Vinh Hoang from Robot Tosy JSC.

Others on the honoured list were Tran Thi Thuan Hoa, 31, from Thai Binh Province, Nguyen Thanh Tai, 30, a soldier in the Spratly archipelago, Nguyen Tien Hai, 33, a policeman from Hanoi, Phan Thi Ha Thanh, 22, from Haiphong, and Do Hoang Giang from Dong Thap Province.

"Dr. Nguyen Huynh Dong was honoured for his research on the application of bio-fuel while Tran Thi Thuan Hoa was selected for her scientific and technical application in pig-raising that brings about high economic efficiency.

Ho Vinh Hoang, Director of Robot Tosy Company, was honoured for producing international standard products. His humming-top was named in the Guinness World Records as the longest automatically spinning top.

The winners will meet Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on March 24.
