The opening ceremony for the summer camp will be held on July 14 in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, with the closing ceremony held on July 28 in southern Ca Mau Province.

Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son said that joining the summer camp, young Vietnamese living overseas (known as Viet kieu) would have a chance to learn more about the history and culture of their homeland.

This is the first time the summer camp will take place in one of northern border provinces, where participants may visit destinations such as Dong Van Rocky Plateau in Ha Giang Province, Son said.

They will also take part in activities in southernmost Ca Mau Province where they can learn about the country's struggle against foreign aggressors, he said. Within the summer camp, the young Vietnamese expatriates will attend a number of activities crossing the country, including offering incense at the Hung Kings Temple in Phu Tho Province, visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi, and commemorating war martyrs and taking part in cultural exchanges with young people in Ha Giang Province.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual Vietnam Summer Camp.
