Coast guard members receive badges for bravery

Two captains from the Vietnamese Coast Guard were awarded “Brave Youth” badges for their active roles in dealing with Chinese ships around the illegally-placed oil rig in the East Sea.

In Danang, on May 29, the Communist Youth Union gave badges to Lieutenant Le Trung Thanh and Lieutenant Dam Minh Khoa of Coast Guard area 2.

Lieutenant Le Trung Thanh said, "As an active duty soldier, with a responsibility to protect the country's sovereignty, I and other members of the crew are honoured to be able to contribute to keeping the peace at home." He also vowed to fulfill his duties and is determined to protect Vietnam's sovereignty rights. They will continue to try to persuade the Chinese to withdraw without doing any damage to international relations.

"I want to dedicate this badge and title to all soldiers who are still working hard. We won't fail the trust of our people or our government in this fight to protect Vietnam's integrity. Vietnam's youth will always be the leading force," he said.

Also, on May 29, the General Department of Politics granted certificates to two soldiers, Nguyen Doan Tu and Nguyen Trung Thanh, who had outstanding performance records in dealing with Chinese ships. The Youth Union of Ministry of Public Security, General Department of Military Industry, legions numbers 12 and 15 visited and presented gifts to members of Coast Guard Area 2.
