Vietnamese pianists win high prizes in Italy

Young national pianists took top prizes in three out of five categories of the Val Tidone International Music Competition, held recently in Milan, Italy.   

Nguyen Hoang Linh Phuong came first in group “FREE” and Nguyen Hoang Phuong Thy was awarded first prize in group A, both contestants belonged to age group 7-9 yrs.

Quach Hoang Nhi led in group B for children aged between 10-12 yrs.  

In particular, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Thy won a special prize for the best performer. She outclassed 15 leaders of the piano, accordion, vocal music and guitar contests.

The 17th event’s final round attracted 40 competitors from 11 countries around the world in the piano section. Vietnamese pianists are the youngest.

In another Piano Talents 2014 International Competition for Young Pianists, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Thy finished first in the category A (7-9 years old) and Quach Hoang Nhi was awarded second prize in the category B (10-12 years old).

Vietnamese pianists contested against 109 players from 31 countries worldwide. Young contestants were required to perform difficult pieces of Schumann, Liszt, Grieg, Copland and Koelling.
