Nearly 170 Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) students are attending a youth summer camp themed – My Homeland’s Sea and Islands – which got underway in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province on July 11.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son said the camp provides a great occasion for OVs youth to develop a better appreciation for the homeland’s rich tradition and heritage and the importance of protecting the nation’s sovereignty over sea and islands.

In Quang Ninh, on the first day of camp, young OVs visited Ha Long Bay, held an exchange with local youth and joyously sang songs about sea and islands and enjoyed themselves playing a variety of games.

“Returning to Vietnam has helped me get a better understand about the importance of national construction and defence and the hardship fishermen face,” said Nguyen Nam Khanh from the Czech Republic.

The summer camp is taking place at locations across the country with a wide range of activities from July 8-27.
