Sixty prominent young people from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia gathered in Hanoi on December 8 to begin a four-day conference that aims to seek stronger affiliation and greater role for youths in consolidating solidarity among the three countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) Nguyen Dac Vinh, highlighted the traditional friendship among the three Southeast Asian neighbouring countries, and called on the young generations to be aware of inheriting and further developing it.

Meanwhile, Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for External Affairs Hoang Binh Quan hailed the conference as a practical activity contributing to educating young generations about the friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

This offers a good opportunity for senior leaders of youth organizations of the three countries to exchange experience and learn from respective good cooperation models, Quan added.

Vilayvong Bouddakham, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union and Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), said through the event, young people from the three nations can talk about issues of mutual concern and come up with effective measures to foster their cooperation.

Participants sought how to step up youth connection and exchange experience in mobilizing young people to play a greater role in socio-economic development and voluntary community activities.

A wide array of activities including meetings, workshops and tours to historical sites and landscapes are planned to educate the young delegates on the traditional friendship and solidarity between people of the three nations.
