Vietnamese student wins Grand Champion award at international math contest

Vu Anh Thai, an eighth grader from the Archimedes Academy Secondary School, Hanoi has won the Grand Champion award at the International Mathematics Contest (IMC) in Singapore with a score of 92/100. 

Thai is one of few students with the highest scores in the contest. Besides the Grand Champion award, he also clinched a gold medal.

Vietnam’s 56-member team was honoured on August 3 for achieving high results in the contest with a Grand Champion award, six gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals and 19 consolation prizes.

The IMC union organizes the International Mathematics Contest (IMC) in Singapore every year since 2005.

This year’s contest attracted the participation of 1,300 students from 13 countries and territories namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, the Republic of Korea, India, Iran, China, Myanmar, Vietnam and the host Singapore.
