Seventy-three outstanding information and technology (IT) products and services were announced and presented with the 2016 Sao Khue Awards at a ceremony held by the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) in Hanoi on April 23.

The winning enterprises of the 2016 Sao Khue Awards.

The award recipients, which included 56 products and 17 services, were picked from among the 93 nominations by software enterprises after three rounds of serious examination and evaluation.

The Sao Khue-recognised products and services are superior in quality, provide creative solutions and effective platforms for users.

Most notably, this was the first year the top 10 best IT products and services were selected for the award based on their revenues, trade names, market shares, and customers, apart from their high socio-economic impact. The combined revenues of these 10 products and services reached more than US$240 million, accounting for 17% of the IT software and service sector’s revenues.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan asked for the acceleration of applications of the Startup movement towards the Internet of Things (IOT) – where not only people but also things will be connected via the Internet-based network.

He urged IT enterprises, particularly the honoured ones, to fully tap into their strengths in order to promptly research, develop and put high-quality products on the market, as well as access new technologies to keep up-to-date with the world’s latest trends and seek new opportunities in new markets.

VINASA needs to continue promoting its role as a bridge connecting the government with the software and service enterprise community, Tuan said, adding that the Sao Khue Awards have to be constantly innovated in order to select worthy products supporting enterprises’ trade promotion activities and market expansion.

The Award has been held annually by VINASA since 2003 under the backing of the Ministry of Information and Communications, aiming to select, rate and honour exemplary IT products and services, thereby directing the market and users and contributing to boosting development of Vietnam’s IT software and service industry.

Compared to 2015, the 2016 Sao Khue Awards saw two breakthrough changes. The organizers decided to add five categories of nomination including transportation and sales management; health, healthcare and beauty; tourism and restaurant/hotel management; smart home and mobile apps for education and training; alongside voting for the 10 best products and services based on their revenues, trade names, market shares, and clientele for the first time ever.
