This is the first time Vietnam has taken first prize in the contest, after 20 years of competing.

The letter sent to stage director Truong Nghe Muu, written by Ho Thi Hieu Hien, expressed his wishes for more films on HIV/AIDS, then people can understand the dangers of the disease and improve their knowledge of how to prevent it.

Previously, the letter had won Vietnam’s national first prize. The student was invited to the UPU’s headquarters in Switzerland to receive the prize.

She also received VND30 million and a certificate from Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training.

The UPU letter-writing contest is held annually to develop children’s writing skills and creativeness and to strengthen friendship between young people across the world.

The 40th contest will be officially launched on October 9.
