L’Oreal for Women in Science Awards’ winners honoured

Two Vietnamese women scientists were honoured at the 2016 L’Oreal for Women in Science Awards, which were held in Hanoi on November 29.


L’Oreal for Women in Science Awards’ winners honoured

The winners of the national awards included Professor Nguyen Thi Lang, PhD, from the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute and Nguyen Thi Mua, PhD, from the Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Fire Rescue Police Department at the Ministry of Public Security.

Professor Lang was honoured for her contributions over the 25 past years in researching, creating, developing and successfully applying many high-yielding varieties of rice.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mua’s her research on refractories, which has helped to improve the effectiveness of fire prevention and firefighting, were highly appreciated.

This year’s L’Oreal for Women in Science Awards also presented scholarships to three scientists, Associate Professor Do Thi Ha, PhD; Do Thi Phuc, PhD; and Nguyen Thi Hiep, PhD.

Each winner of the award is a shining example in science. They have gradually proven that women can make significant contributions to scientific advances, said Managing Director at L'Oréal Vietnam, Brendon Urlich, at the ceremony.

The L'Oreal for Women in Science Awards were first launched in Vietnam in 2009 to support the development of women in scientific research.
