The road links provincial Road 2263 and a memorial site dedicated to Hồ Chí Minh in Chiang Phin commune of Mueang district.

A ceremony to inaugurate the road was held in Mueang district on Saturday.

At the event, Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vũ Hồng Nam said President Hồ Chí Minh’s stay in Thailand laid a firm foundation for the long-term friendship between Vietnam and Thailand. Naming the road after him reflects the two countries’ resolve to reinforce bilateral relations, he added.

Udon Thani Deputy Governor Suchai Butsara said his province has become part of Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation, adding that the Hồ Chí Minh commemorative site will forever be a symbol of the close bonds between the two nations.

President Hồ Chí Minh lived in Thailand for nearly 18 months, from early July 1928 to late 1929. During his six months in Udon Thani he opened a school teaching Vietnamese and translated books to prepare for the fight against France to gain national independence for Vietnam.
