School girl wins USD204,500 scholarship

A school girl in Hanoi who achieved a maximum score of the US Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) has won a VND4.5 billion (USD204,500) scholarship to study at a famous university in the US.

Ngo Ha Kieu Phuong is from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School.

According to the test organising board, every year, SAT 1 attracts around 1.7 million contestants around the world, however, only 0.03% get a top score.

She will study at Vanderbilt University, one among top 15 best university in the US.

Phuong said that she applied to study at Vanderbilt University as it is the only university in the US which has the faculty of Human and Organisational Development.

She has joined the establishment of many community projects in Vietnam with the focus on disadvantaged children. One among those is Sex Education for You Vietnam project which was launched in 2014. With the support from the Hanoi Obstetrical Hospital, the project has held many training courses on sex education and child sexual abuse in Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Ha Tinh and Nghe An.
