PM presents first prize at Vietnamese Talent Awards

Outstanding inventions in IT, sciences and technologies, medicine and environment have been honoured at the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2017 which was held on the evening of November 16 in Hanoi.

The first awards presented at the ceremony were prizes to promote talent proposed by the Vietnam Study Promotion Association. The awards aimed to encourage self-learning to create products and academic work that benefit society.

Pham Tuan Anh, Deputy head of the Vietnam Talent Awards’ Organising board and Deputy Editor-in-chief of Dantri/Dtinews online newspaper; Professor Pham Tat Dong, Secretary and Vice chairman of the Vietnam Study Promotion Association and Hoang Viet Cuong, Deputy general director of Sun Group announced and gave prizes to three winning products . Each prize is worth VND30 million (USD1,363).

The three winning products included:


1. A multi-functional agricultural machine created by 37-year-old Nguyen Van Tuan, from Bac Kan Province’s Na Ri District. The machine can spray insecticides, pump water and generate electricity. It cuts labour and electricity costs and is suitable for different kinds of terrain. Tuan has produced 300 machines of this kind since 2012.

2. A multi-functional plough created by Vu Van Dung, 57, from Ninh Binh Province’s Yen Mo District.

The machine uses old motorbike and bike components so its price is quite affordable. It can be easily moved even in difficult terrain. More than 300 machines have been sold.

The machine is 10 times faster than manual work. It is easily to be operated and environmentally-friendly. More than 5,000 machines of this kind have been sold to farmers across the country.

3. Non-motorised rice seedlings transplanted by 47-year-old Tran Dai Nghia from Thai Binh Province’s Tien Hai District.

In Science and Technology field, the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations this year has introduced outstanding inventions that have real practical application to the Vietnam Talent Awards.

Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh; Politburo member and Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Information and Education Commission, Vo Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of ABBank’s board of directors, Dao Manh Khang granted the prize for long-range night telescopes by engineers Doan Ngoc Hiep and Nguyen Van Thang from the Ministry of Defence’s General Department of Military Industries and Manufacturing.

The item can be used by the Vietnamese navy and border guard forces in the coming time.

In Medicine field, two applicants have won the prize worth VND100 million (USD4,545). The first is advanced technology application in reproductive health care and raising population quality by Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy under Hue University.

The work is carried out by a group of authors led by Professor. Dr. Cao Ngoc Thanh, head of the college.

The works also include some measures for HPV injection prevention among women and widely applied visual inspection with acetic acid for cervical cancer detection.

The other was a kidney transplant operation conducted on a dead person at Cho Ray Hospital.

The prizes for these two works were given by Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, former vice State President and Chairman of Vietnam Study Promotion Association Nguyen Thi Doan, and Communications Manager of ECO Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, Nguyen Huu Cuong.

In Environment field, the winners are Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh and his coworkers from Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment for the Biodiversity Protection of Truong Son Mountain.

According to Dr. Sinh, Truong Son Mountain boasts one of the most diverse ecosystem in the world. However, to date, Vietnam lacks a protection plan for the site. The work was intended to spur on government action on the issue.

The VND100 million (USD4,545) prize was presented by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and HCM City Party Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan.

The Information and Technology (IT) Award is the most eagerly anticipated award among young people. Many nominated or winning products have practical application and played a role in improving society.

Winning the Vietnamese Talent Awards is a launch pad that has helped many people gain success in international awards and other markets. Money Lover, which won the first place for best mobile app in the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2014 for amazing financial management tools and its friendly interface, was voted in the top 5 best apps in 2017 by Google.

With this year’s theme of creative technology, smart connections, the organisers of the Vietnamese Talent Awards have worked with leading firms such as Microsoft, IBM, and VNPT to hold a series of conferences about opportunities for Vietnamese start-up project in the so-called fourth industrial revolution. This year’s competition is mainly focused on young start-ups.

There are three sub-categories of the Information and Technology Award this year; Applied Products for Mobile Devices, Potential Products and Start-up IT Products. The winner of each sub-category will be awarded VND100m (USD4,400), VND50m for the second place and VND30m for the third place.

Community development prizes in IT

Nguyen Long, general secretary of Vietnam Information Technology Association and head of the judging panel, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien and Agribank's Deputy Director Nguyen Thi Phuong presented the community development prize, which hail products that help make the administrative works easier to the VNPT Dak Lak Information and Technology Centre. The centre developed a support system that helps local people's committees manage documents, set up schedules and overall better management in order to reduce the number of paper documents and simplify the procedures.

Consolation prizes in IT


Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Chairwoman of Vietnam Study Promotion Association, Pham Thi Hoe and Jetstar Pacific Airlines' Chairman, Duong Tri Thanh presented four consolation prizes:

Maths Solver - the app will provide detailed steps and answers to any maths problem it can solve. The artificial intelligence used for the app can also evolve with time and is a huge help for students and researchers.

An Vui - smart management solution for bus firms. It is built based on Google's new technology. This is the first app that provides software and websites for selling tickets and introducing the firms, and their drivers.

Online information and city planning map provider app by Vlab Company. Users can search for city planning information and have the construction planning certificate issued online. Management units can use the app to receive the documents.

Farmily - a clean vegetable chain model that grows and sells vegetables. The shops will use hydroponic gardening so that customers can see how the vegetables are taken care of. Customers can also order online.

Third prizes in IT

Giasan.vn - a website to compile and analyse the local real estate market. It lists the prices of various types of properties from 2015 and provides price charts for most projects in Vietnam.

APT attack prevention device by Cyberlab that quickly detects the attacks. It will analyse the network data and find unusual connections.

Campus Plus by BEE TECH Vietnam Company - an app that helps students with career orientations, information about employers, provides exchanges with other students to share knowledge and find required books or apartments as well as information about universities or traffic.

GOnJOY by M&AI Company - virtual assistant to help with business and collect users' experience data in entertainment and food services. It will provide location-based suggestions to users with discount programmes while helping businesses understand more about consumer demand.

Second prizes in IT


Deputy Director of VNPT and Head of Vietnamese Talent Awards' organisers Huynh Quang Liem, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao and Vice Chairman of Vingroup presented second prizes to two winners:

Rada - app service connection. Rada connects users with nearest electronic device repair services. At first, it could only connect motorbike drivers with repair shops but has been improved to include more repair service for home applicants, career consultancy and health care services.

DoIT by VNU University of Engineering and Technology – a Vietnamese spell checker. DoIT will spell check, find and replace repeated words or paragraphs for texts in different formats such as doc, docx, pdf or ppt.

First prize in IT

The Vietnamese Talent Awards were initiated in 2005 by the Vietnam Study Promotion Association and co-organised by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Vietnam Television and Dantri/Dtinews online newspaper and have become an annual event. For the past 13 years, the Vietnamese Talent Awards has become a prestigious national award.

From its initial goal of encouraging and honouring talented people in IT and media, throughout the years, the Vietnamese Talent Awards have expanded categories, featuring other fields including science and technology, medicine, and the environment. In the past 12 years, thousands of products participated in the award and dozens honoured each year have truly generated value and application across all parts of life.

With the theme of innovative technology, smart connectivity, the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2017 looks to facilitate local start-ups communities.

The Vietnamese Talent Awards have always been supported by the government. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

The ceremony featured the involvement of donors, scientists and more than 180 candidates in the final round.

State President Tran Dai Quang sent flower bouquets and a congratulations letter to the event.

In his opening ceremony speech, Editor-in-chief of Dan Tri/Dtinews, Pham Huy Hoan, who is head of the Organising Board expressed appreciation for the continued support from the party, state and government for the awards over the last 12 years.

Monkey Junior, a children’s English teaching software which ranked among the top 18 at the Vietnamese Talents Awards, has won first prize for an education application at the Global Innovation through Science and Technology Tech-I competition held in Silicon Valley in 2016. "
