Three Vietnamese teams have hacked their way into the final ten of the global-scale cyber security competition, Whitehat Grand Prix 2018, after surviving the 24-hour online qualification round on August 18 and 19 in Hanoi.

The three teams will compete against the remaining seven finalists from the Republic of Korea, Ukraine, the US, Russia, France, and Poland for the final round in Hanoi in mid-October. This will be an offline 8-hour straight race covering the challenge of overcoming hardware security breaches.

With the theme “Legends of Vietnam”, the Whitehat Grand Prix 2018 has attracted a record number of participants, with 720 teams from 79 countries around the world, including 146 teams from the host Vietnam.

The champions will walk away with US$10,000, while the second and third runners-up will be awarded US$2,000 and US$1,000, respectively.

The WhiteHat Grand Prix – Global Challenge was launched on a national level by WhiteHatVN.com in 2014, the leading cyber security forum in Vietnam. In July 2015, the company began rolling out the global competition on a quarterly basis thanks to the collaboration with the Authority of Information Security (AIS) under the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications.

The competition aims to create a venue for the cyber-security community to share experiences and techniques with others, while keeping them updated on the latest technologies and developments in cyber security.
