The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has successfully created an affordably priced robotic arm.

The robot SM6’s development was led by Dr. Do Tran Thang from the academy’s Institute of Mechanics.

The robot could replace human arm in some steps of industrial production lines

According to Dr. Thang, the six degree of freedom robot could replace human arm in some steps of industrial production lines. The robot would be affordable but prices have not yet been disclosed.

It has been piloted at Company 197 under the Defence Economic Technical Industry Corporation in metal welding in the frame production.

Cu Duc Thuan, company director, said that the robotic arm was stable and could be integrated into work processes involving staff.

At a meeting held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade by late August, experts in the areas of robotics – mechatronics said that this is among Vietnam’s first robot highly recognised for its creativity and effectiveness.

Dr. Nguyen Quan, chairman of the Vietnam Automation Association, believed that the product would be highly applied in Vietnam as most of the country’s enterprises are small and medium-sized.

Scientists from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology have continued finalising the robotic arm with modern functions. It is expected to be strong enough to compete with imported products.
