The Vietnamese Talents Awards 2010 began at 8pm with the attendance of key figures in Vietnam.

In the audience are Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, Pham The Duyet - Former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Le Doan Hop - Minister of Information and Communications, Nguyen Quoc Trieu - Minister of Health, and more.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Pham Huy Hoan, Editor in Chief of Dan Tri/DTiNews and lead organiser of the awards, said: “Through six years, the Vietnamese Talents Awards has gained increasing support and prestige from the whole nation. The awards for the IT field have been expanded to include natural sciences and healthcare this year."

Eighteen products have been selected for the final round of Vietnam Talents Awards 2010, including 10 from the north (seven with potential application and three widely applied) and eight in the south (five with potential application and three applied).

The selected products underwent very strict assessments from the examiners and have high potential for application. Many of them are valuable and contribute greatly to the development of Vietnam.

In the natural sciences, following the success of the 2009 awards, this year’s event will continue honouring a number of scientists who have made great contributions to this sector. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology council chaired by Professor and Academic Nguyen Van Hieu, held many meetings to consider introduction letters to choose the most outstanding scientists in different sectors for honours.

This year is the first time that the awards have been expanded to the field of healthcare innovations under the Ministry of Health’s sponsorship. The Ministry of Health also established a sciences council to select and nominate candidates for the organising board.
