According to Minh, the tool has both manual and automatic mechanisms.

For the manual mechanism, when being pressed, the equipment will produce a sound wave that can frighten dogs away.

The device includes a microphone that picks up the noise of a dog. If the sound surpasses the permitted level, an acoustic wave is created to make dogs feel uncomfortable and then they will leave.

Minh added that he tested the device on his aunt’s dogs with good results. The sound played at 40kHz (120dB) can affect dogs, causing them to step back and then run away.

Minh said he himself had been attacked by dogs, so he and his friend were determined to make the device with support from their teachers.

The student said that his equipment now only causes dogs to run away, not harm them. In the future, he wants to install SOS and GPS functions to save people in urgent cases. He wants to then focus on making the product more compact and affordable for people, particularly children.
