The Vietnamese Talent Awards have reflected robust changes in the world and Vietnam with the competition this year expected to feature products that help deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nguyen Long, General Secretary of Vietnam Information Technology Association and chairman of the jury board in the Information Technology field for the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2020, believed that startups were likely to feature ways of addressing the pandemic.

"We’ve honoured many IT products that have helped solve burning issues many times before," Long said. "In the early 2000s, we had a railway signalling system which the public had really been waiting for. Next were digital transformation products including Fintech with a first prize in 2015, a program that applied 3D virtual reality technology to simulate the human body for teaching, learning and research activities in health sciences which won first prize in 2017, and voice-to-text software which won first prize in 2019."

In 2020, while the Covid-19 pandemic is badly affecting many countries in the world including Vietnam, Long said it would create a good chance for IT communities to challenge themselves and produce new solutions.

“As you may see, Covid-19 is a good chance to apply technology to Vietnam’s logistics," he explained. "We’ve seen new startups in this group who introduced some solutions during the Covid-19 pandemic like Bluezone which is a quick tracking application for people at risk of Covid-19 infection, or websites which help people donate online."

"In this new period, it will be very important and meaningful for us to look for and honour new Make-in-Vietnam products for the Vietnamese Talent Awards 2020," he stressed.

The annual Vietnamese Talent Awards 2020 will be held on December 25 at the Hanoi International Convention Centre.
