Two Vietnamese students have won a gold medal at the Asia Pacific Online Mechatronics Skill Competition 2021.

Dong Van Ngoc, head of Hanoi Electromechanical Vocational College, said the goal was to finish in the top three and their results exceeded their expectations.

"The tests are different from the tests in the world and ASEAN mechatronics skill competitions, it is more about programming than mechanical installation. The tests are very practical and more similar to how work is done in the factory," Tuan said.

After reading the test, Tuan and Ngoc quickly divided work according to the strong points of each person and helped each other out. Tuan and Ngoc have experienced many contests and had encouragement from their families and teachers so they were confident to participate in the competition.

Tuan and Ngoc will have the chance to join the World Mechatronics Skill Competition held in Shanghai, China in 2022.

Truong Ngoc Hoang from Festo Company, a supervisor of the competition, also said that the tests were difficult but interesting. Besides programming skills, contestants must know how to work as a team, adopt a suitable strategy and have English skills to understand the tests and jargon.

According to Hoang, both Tuan and Ngoc did well, finish quicker than contestants from Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
