HCMC- Fish Sauce Debut Show

Fish Sauce is the most flavoursome band to come through Hanoi and impress taste buds this summer. A fresh blend of Vietnamese and Latin American artists, come for a night of original music composed by lead singer, Mai Khoi, on journeys through Mexico and Cuba.

Mai Khoi (Song and Album of the Year, 2010) is joined by Araceli (Nicaragua), Sebastian (Ecuador), Truong Sa (formerly PAK band and collaborator with Le Cat Trong Ly) and the Hanoi flamenco collective.

A night to celebrate the Nigerian funk musician and band-leader, William Onyeabor, who had a series of records in the late 70s and 80s which exalted him into an iconic status in the history of Nigerian pop, often considered the founder of Nigerian electro Afro-funk.

Introducing the recent documentary about the mysterious man, Fantastic Man, and follow it up with a set from Saigon’s Afrobeat expert Dan Lo [The Observatory / Eclectic Aesthetic].

Acclaimed pianist and piano professor Boris Kraljevic will perform in the concert ‘Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5’ of the HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).

The concert will entertain audiences with famous symphonies of Beethoven under the baton of conductor Le Phi Phi. The concert will also feature talents of pianist Le Ho Hai and many artists of HBSO.

Hanoi- Performance by American pianist

Goethe Institute

American pianist Anne Chamberlain, who already inspired Vietnamese audiences in 2010 and 2013, will join a concert with Vietnamese musicians.

The concert will take the audience on a musical journey from the 18th-century German classic, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, to the compositions of Richard Strauss, which will be sung by Ryoko Bohkumi. The concert will also feature talents of pianist Dinh Thu Huong, and sopranos Ryoko Bohmuki and Doan Thi To Loan.

Trang Thanh Hien’s “Đáy sóng” exhibition is the complicated stories of a woman who makes art in which the pictures retell the story of a powerful woman who worships Buddhism. The pictures were painted on a special kind of paper: Nung An people’s phloem paper, which was made by the ethnic women and arranged unplannedly by the artist to become perfect creations.

Dalat- Exhibition ‘Da Lat and me’

Showcasing 23 oil finger paintings by painter Vo Trinh Bien. The paintings resemble pieces of Da Lat with an abstract style, which feature the emotions of Vo Trinh Bien. Painter Bien expressed his hope that his works would offer visitors new experiences.

Through the display of artists’ books, Ly would like to bring her project which is dealing with the conceptual and visual forms of language to the local art community of Hanoi.

Ly Hoang Ly (real name: HOANG, LY) is a Vietnam visual artist, poet, and editor, born in Hanoi, Vietnam. She received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013 with Fulbright fellowship and Dean Grant, and received her BFA from The Ho Chi Minh City Fine-Arts University in 1999.

Ha Giang- Khen Mong Festival

A festival featuring khen, typical bamboo flutes of the Mong ethnic minority people, aiming at popularising different forms of performances using the musical instrument, such as dancing with khen or khen blowing.

There are other folk games: tree and rope climbing, ball beating, pole pushing, arrow shooting, and nightingale fighting.

Traditional costume shows and local specialties will also be featured.
